Color Club - Feelin' Groovy

Hi everybody! Here's a bright summery color that might be up your alley. Feelin' Groovy is a BRIGHT lime green jelly that I picked up a long, long time ago. I needed a pick me up and this helped. I wasn't super pleased that it ended up being this sheer, but perhaps I got a bad bottle.. looking at other reviews, it's apparently supposed to be a creme? I shook this pretty well to make sure it was well-mixed but perhaps I just got a strange bottle. Anyways.. it reminds me of lime Jello. This would be fun with some fimo clay fruit slices on it or maybe underneath a layer of this, kind of like those jelly sandwich manis I see people doing! It would look like a 50s fruit Jello mold. What you see here is 3 coats and you can definitely see my nail tips.

Color Club - Antiquated

Hello there! Gosh, it's been a while, hasn't it? I've had a really busy month and as a result, not much time to blog. I'm trying to get back on track now though and this is a great polish to do it with.

Antiquated is a really lovely gold foil, definitely cool toned. It almost looks like a rose gold on my nails. I really love a good gold foil and this is a great one! The finish is almost mirror like, not streaky, and it goes on really nicely in 2 coats without being patchy or sheer. This went through a fairly heavy wear test as I wore it on a vacation to Las Vegas during which I did a decent amount of heavy lifting and carrying and it made it through with only a handful of small chips. Foils always seem to wear really well, so I like to put them on when I know it'll be a little while before I can change my polish. I have a few more foils from this collection and I'm looking forward to trying them.

Color Club - Worth the Risque

Hello everyone! What a polish I have for you today.. boy! Holos have been in somewhat short supply in the last few years. Apparently the supplies to make them are pretty expensive. :( There has been somewhat of a resurgence now with some great holos by Layla and HITS but they're still pretty darn pricey. I only own a few holos and hoard them a little bit.. can you blame me? Color Club made some great ones a few years ago and I'm trying to collect them all. Worth the Risque is one of these and it's all mine thanks to a kind swapper on MUA. :)

Silver holos are pretty common so the color of this isn't too special but it's the holo effect that makes it so fun and enchanting. It really is like having rainbows on your nails! One of the best things about this is that the holo is fairly strong and the formula isn't bad; some stronger holos need special bases to make sure they apply smoothly. This was two quick coats with no topcoat since some topcoats dull the holo effect. The nice thing about holos is that they generally dry quickly so not having topcoat isn't a big deal. I've had this on for a few days and have noticed something interesting: the polish seems to be rubbing off in places instead of chipping. I've never seen that with any other polish! It's certainly not bad, as you can't see much wear at all in my picture, just interesting.

Color Club - Revvvolution

Hello everyone! I picked a gorgeous, unique polish for today. Revvvolution is a really cool charcoal grey holo, one of the few holo polishes put out in recent years. The neat thing about it is that it's sort of a mix of a frost and holo, at least to my eyes. It's definitely not scattered but it's not fully linear either. There are holo and non-holo versions of this polish floating around, unfortunately, so you may not get this version if you order online. I think it's well worth it, though. The coverage was so good I almost got away with one coat, I only needed a second for some tiny patches that needed covering. One nice thing about holos is their quick dry time, this was no exception. I really, really love this one! I wish the holo showed better in the pictures but it's somewhat subtle in real life as well.

Color Club - Nouveau Vintage

Hello there! I hope you all had wonderful holidays. It's amazing that the year is coming to a close, and that my first blog anniversary is just around the corner in February! This will likely be the last swatch of 2011 but there's always more around the corner. I'm planning on doing a favorites post as well. With that said, let's have a look at today's polish. Nouveau Vintage is a fairly new release, having come out this year. I was quite excited by it in the promo pictures and in swatches, and I finally got my hands on it via swap. It's a lovely fall-type color, a rich brown-bronze with hints of gold and green. In the bottle it looks quite green and I was hoping for more of that to show on the nail but I'm still very pleased with it. Color Club makes some great polishes and I think they deserve more attention! The formula on this was fairly good, generally even and opaque in 2 coats.

Color Club - Ms. Socialite

Hi everyone! Today's post was brought to you in part by Paillette, who recently had a giveaway. I won one of the prizes, the Color Club Rebel Debutante set! This polish is from that set. Ms. Socialite is a reddish-purple creme. I wasn't sure how I would like it since I usually like blue-based purples but I'm trying to push myself out of my normal range of colors and try new things. It applied really smoothly and covered pretty well in 2 coats, though I probably could have used a third to fully even things out. It's definitely a rich fall-type color and it's grown on me.

Color Club - Electro Candy

Hi there! Here's a little something to brighten your day, literally. I picked up Color Club's Electro Candy collection from Ross a long time ago but have only swatched one of the colors before this, Tangerine Scream. I felt like putting on something bright so I chose the pink of the collection, Electro Candy! All of the colors in this collection have a really pretty blue flash to them (except for TS, which flashes white) and it looks really cool against the neon pink of EC. It's certainly an attention-getting shade! I was pretty pleased with the application, it was very smooth and not streaky in the slightest. However, being a neon, it was fairly sheer and needed 4 coats to reach opacity. You can't see any nail line in the pictures but I can see a little bit in person at certain angles. My only complaint with this is that it seemed to take much longer than normal to dry! I always use a quick drying topcoat; in fact, the one I'm currently using is what came with this collection, the Vivid topcoat. My nails are usually fully, completely dry after 30-45 minutes but even after an hour I managed to get some dents and smudges with this polish. It only happened on 2 or 3 of my nails though, but it was still surprising to me. Overall I really like this color and think it's a great, fun shade for summer. :)

China Glaze - Tree Hugger and Color Club - Object of Envy

Sorry it's been so long since my last post! The past week has been rough and bumpy nail-wise, to say the least. In the matter of a few days I managed to crack 2 nails pretty severely. Thankfully I got them fixed with Orly Nail Rescue, which I'll be reviewing shortly, but that left me with hands as such: 3 nails with patches, 2 nails cut to nubbins and growing out (my thumbnails, which I was wearing fakes over), and only 5 good nails between both hands. It was getting rough. This past Friday I was having breakfast with a friend at Waffle House and as I got out of his car and closed the door, I smacked my hand on something and SNAP! Lost my left pinky nail all the way to the base. It was one of the patched nails so it was already weak, it didn't hurt at all thankfully. So I came home and snipped them all down with only the slightest bit of free edge surviving. It really sucks but that's life, hm? I'm certainly not a fan of having short nails because they make my fingers look stumpy but they do offer some advantages! You don't have to worry about gunk getting under there, you can wear sheer colors, and keypads aren't a pain to press.

So here are my new nubbin nails. I kept on the color I had when they broke because it's really pretty! The friend I ate breakfast with said it reminded him of a granny smith apple and I think he's absolutely right. Tree Hugger is a fresh, lovely green with pearly light green shimmer running through it that really does remind me of a granny smith apple's skin. It applied really smoothly in 3 thin coats.

When I took off my fake thumbnails (don't worry, no nail glue, just stick-on pads) I decided to do accent thumbs in Color Club's Object of Envy. I've showed this briefly before in a pedicure but here it is on my thumb. I wish this picture was better, sorry! Object of Envy is a nice emerald green glitter that mixes small and large pieces for a more multidimensional shine. Unfortunately for good coverage it took me about 4 coats, even when I made sure to grab gobs of glitter on the brush. It certainly is nice and glittery though!

I hope I don't offend any of my short nailed friends out there, I think a lot of people have really cute nubbins but it just doesn't work for me! What other benefits to short nails are there? Let me know in the comments, I'd like to hear your ideas for how to maximize these minis. :)

Glitter glitter glitter!

I LOVE glitter polishes. I really do. But they're such a pain to remove that I only rarely wear them on my fingers. My solution is to use glitter polishes for my pedicures instead! Since glitter wears like iron, it means I hardly ever have to do my toes. So since I didn't hear any objection to posting pedi pics, here's my current toes. This was done with the Color Club Glitter Vixen collection. Colors are as follows: Tru Passion (purple), Sexy Siren (blue),  Object of Envy (green), Art of Seduction (red), and Sex Symbol (silver). Application on these was pretty good, they're clear bases that are jammed with glitter so it only took me 2-3 coats to get what you see here. Click to enlarge.

Color Club - Tangerine Scream

Hello there! Finally back with another swatch for you. This is Color Club's Tangerine Scream, released as part of their Summer 2009 Electro Candy collection. I have the whole set, so expect to see them all here sooner or later. This is a great color with a really cool blue-white shimmer that kinda shows up here. It's like most neons, kinda sheer, so I think this was 3 or 4 coats. Worth it though. Oh, and my pinky nail is stubby because I had a little break on Friday.. Sad, but at least I didn't lose the whole nail!
