Sinful Colors - Happy Ending

Hello! I meant to post on Thursday but I've been quite the busy bee. Here's another green for you. Sinful Colors is a great line of polish, super-cheap with lovely colors. I only see them at Walgreens but they may be sold other places. Happy Ending is a great spring color, bright yellow-green with yellow shimmer that really comes out in the sunlight! Shown here with two coats.

OPI - Teenage Dream

I've been looking for this polish for ages and finally picked it up this weekend! Teenage Dream is from OPI's recent Katy Perry collection. It is a cotton-candy pink loaded with silver shimmer and big flecks of rainbow glitter! I'd noticed from other blog posts that it seems to be sheer, so I layered it over Sinful Colors' Easy Going, an almost-white pink that helped to make this solid. What you see is one coat of Easy Going topped with 3 coats of Teenage Dream.

I also took a video of this in the sun so you could see how it sparkles and shifts.

My Collection

First of all, hello to all my new readers! Thank you so much for coming to my little corner and helping me not feel like I'm posting to thin air. :) I will have a new swatch on Tuesday, but I wanted to do a post today so I'm going to show you how I store and organize my polish. If you want to see these or any of my other pictures in a larger size, just click on them.

These are my drawers on my dresser. They are each about the size of a large shoebox. Sitting on top is my Hoof Hands moisturizer, some Bare Minerals makeup I got from my mom for Christmas (thank you!), Q-Tips, my Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol 3, and my Benefit Brow Zings. I don't wear makeup often, but I do keep some things on hand. I might do some makeup swatching in the future.

Top left drawer, from back to front: China Glaze, Orly, Sally Hansen, OPI, and miscellaneous brands that only have one or two bottles each.

Bottom left, from back to front: Essie, Color Club (if you're looking for neon, they make some great ones!), Zoya, Pure Ice, Hard Candy, and Sinful Colors.

Bottom right, from back to front: Nicole by OPI, Sephora by OPI.

Top right: The Drawer of Messiness. :) This has a bunch of base coats, topcoats, treatments, and tools as well as nail art supplies. That polish sitting on top is OPI's Absolutely Alice, something I plan on giving away in the future once I have enough readers.

There are a few polishes that live outside of these drawers but it's pretty well-contained. I may get new drawers soon because to get polishes that are all the way in the back, I have to squeeeeak my hand past all the other bottles and hope I don't knock anything over. So, readers, how do you store yours?

Nicole by OPI - Fell From The Tree

Back with another post! This time it's a beautiful glowy green from Nicole. This was part of their holiday collection that I found on clearance at Target. I would always look at the bottle and see how lit-up it looked, think about it, then put it back.. Finally bought it, and I'm glad I did! It covered nicely in two coats and even in a dimly-lit room it just GLOWS. These nails kinda make me feel like Poison Ivy, somehow.. If I was any good at nail art I'd slap some red flowers on here. It's much more of a bright, spring green than it shows here, it doesn't have any of the blackened quality it appears to. I suspect it's because I'm taking pictures next to a sunny window instead of actually out in the sun.

Nicole by OPI - You Can!

Another swatch post for you. This is my perfect 'mannequin hands' shade, which would be super if it wasn't 3 coats with some little bald patches. Very pretty though, hard to capture in pictures. The sun obliterates the pretty pink undertone and makes it a beautiful light shimmery beige. I have multiple pictures here.. the one with the cheese fries is just for fun, I went to the state fair on Sunday and had a great time. :)

Care and Feeding of My Hard Nails

I figured I'd write a post on my favorite nail care products, since I'm very pleased with their length and current health. It's been very hard to grow them out and retain them so I hope this might help others who have nail problems.

I have always had slow-growing, hard nails. I am thankful for the hardness, but they are generally EXTREMELY hard and non-flexible so they are prone to being hit and broken instead of simply taking the hit and bending. I also have a lot of peeling issues that cause cracks, which end up getting snagged and leading to breakage. The two most crucial items for me are, I believe, CND Solar Oil and my buffing block.

CND Solar Oil is a mixture of jojoba oil, Vitamin E, rice bran oil, and sweet almond oil. It comes in a polish-like bottle with a little brush, which makes me happy. I don't like creams or lotions because I have to dab and massage them on, which gets my fingers slick and sticky and inevitably gets my laptop greasy. No thanks. The brush lets you control where it goes which is especially nice when you have longer nails and need to get underneath the free edge of the nail. It has a little bit of almond scent, not overwhelming. The best thing is how quickly it soaks in! I'd tried Borghese's cuticle oil before and it always just sat on my cuticles and nails, never soaking in. Solar Oil gets sucked right in! I've heard this is due to the small particle size of jojoba and rice bran oil, but don't quote me.. not a scientist. Anyways, this really helps with keeping my nails hydrated and flexible which prevents a lot of breakage. I put it on once or twice a day when I'm sitting around and working on stuff and that's all I need.

My buffing block is, I think, from Sally Beauty. They have a ton of different kinds. You might also see these in a long oval form. Mine has 4 sides but I've seen some with 6 or 7! My primary use of this is to seal the free edge of my nail. I use the buff and shine sides to seal the layers together and it's cut down on my peeling significantly. It also helps a lot with the cracks and snags because it creates a nice, smooth surface. I do use the filing sides to file my nails when I get a crack or snag. Glass files are technically much easier on your nails but I find the buffing block's files to be fairly gentle as well while still allowing me to file quickly.

There are two other products I'd like to give credit to, as I believe they've helped significantly with my current nail health.

The first is Hoof Hands Hard as Hoof Nail Strengthening Cream. I always get mine at Walmart but you can look around. I put this on my nails for 5-10 minutes after I remove my polish (non-acetone remover, it doesn't dry out my nails as badly) and let it soak in, then wipe it off and push back my cuticles. Anything to help hydrate my nails! You can go here to check out the ingredients but it's got jojoba oil in it like Solar Oil, so that's nice.

The second is Borghese's Hydrati base coat. Yes, hydration, hydration, hydration.. I know. It's probably getting repetitive, but it's what works for me. I don't know how well it actually hydrates but I'm not about to change my routine now! It does really well with holding my polish on too and preventing staining, which is saying something considering that I wear a lot of dark colors, blues, and greens. With this and my Seche Vite topcoat, it's not uncommon for me to experience little to no tipwear for 5 days or so. Also, I'm a big fan of Borghese's brush, it's really wide with a rounded tip. I loooove wide brushes!

So this is how I take care of my nails. Nail care is a personal thing because everyone is different, but I hope by sharing this that someone else can learn and benefit.

China Glaze First Mate

Here's my first swatch! I know everyone's seen swatches of China Glaze's Anchors Away collection online already, but I just wanted to show it off. I ended up getting 3 polishes from the collection: First Mate, Ahoy!, and Sea Spray. Ahoy! is so pretty I may just get a backup, and First Mate is just plain gorgeous. I was thinking of doing some striping or a French on it today but I decided it looked too pretty alone to mess with.
